- Abstract
Cetirizine is a highly efficacious and long acting second generation HI receptor antagonist indicated for the treatment of allergic diseases. It is a racemate mixture composed of equal amounts of S- and R-enantiomers, and the R-enantioner, levocetirizine, carries the majority of the histamine H1-receptor-blocking activity. Recently, levocetirizine formulation has been introduced in India for the treatment of allergic rhinitis and urticaria.
