- Abstract
The isolated primary nocturnal enuresis (PNE) is a condition that can have a negative impact on the child. The growing demand for consultation shows a request for assistance towards the health professionals. From a questionnaire covering biographical elements and modalities of consultation with parents of children 5 to 15 years with PNE, our goal was to understand the reasons and obstacles from parents when asking for consultation. 105 questionnaires were analyzed. 82.1% of parents (n=55) consulted because of the impact on the life of their child. Enuresis affected the social life of children, and was associated with low self-esteem and emotional disorders. 56.7% of parents (n=38) were personally embarrassed. In 23.9% of the questionnaires (n=16), the consultation request came from the child. Two obstacles to the consultation came out: the expectation of a spontaneous resolution in 62.2% of cases and for 24.3% parents imagined that a psychological problem was at the source of their enuretic child.
