- Title
Before Epilepsy Unfolds: Opening up the potassium door in neonatal seizures.
- Authors
Scott, Rod C; Holmes, Gregory L
- Abstract
The article presents information on a study which depicts that targeting potassium channels with antiepileptic drugs is suitable therapy for treatment of neonates with seizures. It informs that the epilepsy development in children can be blocked by dampening brain susceptibility for seizures. It mentions that during the first month after birth neonates are at high risk of several brain injuries including trauma, hypoxic ischemic insults, and intracranial hemorrhages.
