- Abstract
Neuroendocrine carcinomas represent to 7% of pancreatic neoplasms and acinar cell carcinomas (ACQ represent to 1 %. When ACC express neuroendocrine markers by more than 25-30%, the tumor is called mixed acinar-endocrine carcinoma (MAEC). The purpose of this work is to present an autopsy case of a 70 year old man who was diagnosed with metastatic: adenocarcinoma in the liver of unknown primary origin. A PET-SCAN showed a pancreatic tumor. On autopsy ascites, generalized jaundice and 4.0 x 3.0 x 2.0 cm tumor in the head of pacreas were found. Liver had metastasis. The pancreatic neoplasm was formes by acinar and neuroendocrine cells that showed positivity to alfa 1 antitripsin, somatostatin and chromogranin. There are only 20 published cases of MA EC Patient's average age is 58, and these neoplasms are more common in women. They are generally large, 60% are located in the pancreatic head and are well circumscribed. They manifest with abdominal pain, weight loss and they rarely show an obvious tumor and jaundice. Median survival is 10.5 months.
