- Abstract
The article reports on the portomesenteric vein gas which was found in a 50-year-old man who has been admitted to the hospital because of complaints of a month-long fever in China. The computed tomography examination of the patient revealed marked detention of the colon and massive air emboli of the portal system. It is explained that the primary factors for the development of portomesenteric vein gas include intestinal wall alterations, bowel distention and sepsis.
