- Abstract
The paper aims to find the observation sites with significant age changes in middle-aged and elderly men by using MSCT volume reconstruction technology, and to construct estimation method combining single index and multiple index of 60-years-old Chinese male. According to the sample screening criteria, digital imaging and communication in medicine (DICOM) data with pelvic MSCT scanning from 177 Chinese men aged from 40 to 70 years were collected. OsiriX MDv13.0.0 software was used for volume reconstruction; the classification standard was constructed by morphological observation. SPSS software was used for general descriptive statistical analysis of the observation indicators of the sample. Spearman test was used for correlation analysis, and sites highly correlating with age change were selected. Finally Fisher stepwise discriminant method was used to construct the single index and multiple index stepwise 60-year-old discriminant models. Ultimately, three observation sites of the fifth lumbar vertebra, posterior iliac crest and part of the sacral alar were selected to construct the discrimination model. The discriminant rates of the fifth lumbar spine, posterior iliac crest and part of ala of sacrum were 80.8%, 78.0% and 87.0%, respectively, and the discriminant rates of multi-index with the three sites were 91.0%. According to the analysis of the above data, multi-index discrimination can be the first choice in practical application, and single index discrimination can be used when some observation indicators are lost due to skeletal remains. Using this model, 10 actual cases (covering the whole age group from 40 to 70 years old) were selected to verify the accuracy rate, especially the samples aged from 50 to 70 years old, and the results were satisfactory. In conclusion, the application of MSCT volume reconstruction technique to determine the age point of Chinese men at 60 years old by observing the fifth lumbar vertebra, the posterior part of the iliac crest and part of the ala of sacrum has high feasibility and accuracy. This method uses virtual anatomy as the technical support, which eliminates the complex process of bone processing, thus reducing the probability of incorrect age estimation due to improper bone processing. It provides a new method for solving such problems in actual cases.
