- Abstract
The article titled "Fluoroquinolones in Griffon Vultures (Gyps fulvus): The Role of Feeding Stations in Spain" presents data on the exposure to quinolones in Griffon Vultures in Spain. 656 Griffon Vultures were captured at feeding stations in Aragon between 2008 and 2011, and quinolones were detected in the plasma of 13% of the captured vultures. Additionally, quinolones were found in 18% of the carrion provided at the feeding stations, especially in pig carrion. It is suggested that antibiotic exposure is related to the consumption of carrion from intensive livestock farming. The importance of implementing a drug monitoring program in carrion to assess the risk of exposure for scavenging birds is emphasized.
