- Abstract
Religious and spiritual experiences have a significantly positive correlation with the health-disease process and play an important role in coping with and adapting to chronic conditions. The aim of this study was to understand the meaning of spirituality and religiosity for people with spinal cord injuries. For that, a qualitative study based on nine autobiographical narratives of people with spinal cord injury sequelae was conducted. Six categories were identified: religious practices, spirituality, gratitude, transmission of religious values, perception of meaning and religious dreams. It was concluded that spirituality and religiosity manifested themselves as strategies for coping with spinal cord injury and as guidance for finding meaning.
