- Abstract
Over the years, a considerable number of conjugate gradient methods have been proposed based on modifications on the well-known classical conjugate gradient methods. These methods were shown to have satisfied descent condition taking into consideration the strong Wolfe line search and other line search schemes. Convergence of objective functions were also guarantied. In this study, a decent conjugate gradient method for solving unconstrained non-linear optimization problems is developed. Algorithm of the proposed method was well developed by constructing its update parameter. Descent properties of the method based on some assumptions on the objective function were established. The convergence analysis of the method showed that it converges globally taking into consideration the strong Wolfe conditions . Dolan and More performance profile was used to compare the numerical strength of this method with other methods, showing clear evidence of better performance of the new method in the profiles tested.
