- Abstract
This article discusses the conditions of use of a lead-bearing deoxidizing agent. Most compounds of lead are toxic. The greatest danger is posed by lead dust and lead vapor. Lead is rated as a class I hazard, so its concentration in the air at workstations is strictly regulated. Lead has limited solubility in liquid iron and is nearly insoluble in solid iron. It forms almost no chemical compounds with the elements that make up steel. Lead tends to undergo dendritic and zonal segregation is steel.
