BREAKING THE SUPPLY BOTTLENECK.
- Authors
WRIGHT, LTC JOHN A.
- Abstract
Supply chains around the world are experiencing significant disruptions, with congestion at seaports being a major issue. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a surge in imports as consumer demand has shifted to goods, leading to a strain on supply chains. This has also affected the Department of Defense's ability to keep weapons flowing. The Biden administration is working with suppliers to address these supply chain stresses. The defense industrial base, which consists of small and medium-sized manufacturers, is particularly vulnerable. The Navy and shipbuilding industry are also monitoring supply chain issues. The United States is taking steps to increase domestic supply of critical materials and reduce reliance on potentially unreliable sources. The House Armed Services Committee has created a Defense Critical Supply Chain Task Force to address these challenges. Contractors can take proactive measures to mitigate supply chain risks, such as increasing visibility into the supply chain and prioritizing resilience.
