- Abstract
The article focuses on the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort built by the Walt Disney Co. in partnership with the government of Hong Kong, China. The resort consists of a theme park, two hotels and retail, dining and entertainment facilities. On May 18, 2005, the newspaper "Hong Kong Standard" reports on the plan of the Walt Disney to include shark's fin soup in wedding banquets to promote the two hotels at the resort. It is said that shark's fins soup carries cultural significance and is seen as luxurious and a display of affluence and generosity. The newspaper publishes a follow-up story on May 23 and reports that this plan to serve shark's fin soup have outraged local environmentalists. On June 10, the newspaper reports that the company has decided to take the shark's fin soup off its wedding banquet menu.
