The Central Appalachians Ecoregion in the United States occurs in portions of six states (Kentucky, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia andWest Virginia). There are 34 species found here, representing 14 genera and five families (Acanthodrilidae, Komarekionidae, Lumbricidae, Megascolecidae and Sparganophilidae). Seventeen of the species are considered native (endemic) to North America; all others are European, Oriental or Pantropical (exotic) introductions.
