- Abstract
This article, published in the International Journal of Primatology, discusses the genetic and morphological analyses that confirm the presence of Cebuella niveiventris, a species of pygmy marmoset, in Bolivia. Previous classifications of Cebuella as one species with two subspecies have been revised based on molecular data and cranial measurements. The researchers collected fecal samples from a group of Cebuella in Bolivia and analyzed their mitochondrial DNA and pelage patterns. The results indicate that the Bolivian marmosets belong to the Cebuella niveiventris species, establishing the southern geographic range limit for this species. The study highlights the importance of using molecular and morphological data to inform conservation strategies for cryptic primate taxa.
