- Abstract
T cell exhaustion is defined by poor effector function, sustained expression of inhibitory receptors and decrease of cytokine. It is a state of T cell dysfunction that arises during cancer. T cell exhaustion is associated with negative immunoregulatory pathways which can be grouped into three main categories: cell surface inhibitory receptors, cytokine and immunoregulatory cell types. It can induce immune escape in tumor. But exhausted T cells is not irreversible. Blocking the appropriate pathways with monoclonal antibody may reverse the dysfunction of exhausted T cells, improve the anti-tumor immunity and tumor control probability. It is a new immunotherapy to treat cancer by reversing the exhausted T cells in cancer patients.
