- Abstract
As efficiency issues in Indian banking sector are continuously emerging for its growth and survival, our paper primarily aims at measuring and evaluating technical efficiency in a time saving and comprehensive manner through application of nonparametric DEA. This paper has studied financial soundness and technical efficiency of twenty (20) selected public sector banks during the period starting from 2014 to 2018 and ranking them according by employing two financial indicators-CAMEL methodology and Du-Pont analysis separately. United Bank of Indiahas ranked one of CAMEL indicators whereas UCO bank becomes superefficient in Du-Pont analysis. Thereafter the nonparametric Mann-Whitney U test is applied to judge the relative effectiveness of these two financial indicators in raking performance of banks though DEA.The results of U test appears that CAMEL rating model is much more effective than that of Du- Pont analysis for measuring the technical efficiency of selected public sector banks in India.
