- Abstract
Moral panic can be defined as the reactions directed against people and groups who engage in these behaviors as a result of the widespread use of what society considers to be deviant behaviors. When a society's long-standing dissatisfaction reaches a peak, the issues that surround it increase in parallel, causing moral panic at the same time. When this anxiety rises, legislative, executive, and judicial powers work together to create a series of legislative regulation to eliminate the situation that is causing issues in society. The media used this as news, talk shows, movies, TV series, etc. Media does this by keeping the elements that cause moral panic on the agenda with the contents. In the study, examples from the world were given in order to understand the concept of moral panic. In this study, examples from the world were given in order to understand the concept of moral panic, and as a result of these examples, it was emphasized how moral panic turned into a tool used by the dominant powers. İn this study moral panic was examined with examples, and then the impact of the situation created after the 15 July coup attempt on media content was evaluated to use a television series as an example. İn this study, three series (İsimsizler, Söz, Savaşçı) were analyzed using the method of critical discourse analysis. The fact that the examined serials started broadcasting close to each other is thought to be closely related to the situation of the period. It has been understood that the discourse used in the analyzed series and the ideology constructed through this discourse coinside with the mainstream discourse. This situation leads to the conclusion that moral panic is effective in excluding certain behaviors and actions as well as in determining which behaviors and actions are approved.
