- Abstract
A 19-year-old woman with facial acne vulgaris had been applying 0.05% tretinoin cream daily. During the 2nd month of treatment, she developed eczema of the face. Avoidance of the cream and treatment with mild corticosteroid led to complete clearance of the rash. Tretinoin is a widely used treatment for acne vulgaris and some disorders of keratinization. Its irritant effects are that most patients develop erythema, scaling and sometimes, pruritus after the first few days of therapy. In spite of its frequent use, allergic contact dermatitis rarely develops.
