- Abstract
The absence of sexual intercourse in the past makes the diagnosis of PID unlikely, thus non-infectious or non-gynecological etiologies of pelvic abscess must be explored in these patients. Tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA) is an inflammatory mass involving the adnexa and, occasionally, other adjacent pelvic organs. It is a severe manifestation of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), which is more prevalent in sexually active women of reproductive age.
