- Abstract
The article discusses what the author refers to as the importance of having physicians, nurses, psychologists, and other medical personnel develop clinical competence and skills that can help improve the provision of health care to transgender, transsexual, gender nonbinary, and other groups of gender diverse patients. Gender dysphoria, mental illness, and the fifth edition of the "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" treatise are assessed, along with U.S. medical education.
