- Abstract
The article presents a clinical review examining the recommendations for medical care of individuals with a genetic predisposition to Lynch syndrome, or hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer. Inherited Lynch syndrome is caused by mutations in mismatch repair genes. The authors used PubMed and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, among other sources, to perform a systematic literature search. The review found that recommended medical screening and tests include colonoscopy, endometrial sampling, transvaginal ultrasound of the ovaries and uterus, patient education, genetic counseling, subtotal colectomy, oophorectomy, and hysterectomy. INSETS: Amsterdam Criteria: Family Risk for Hereditary Nonpolyposis...;Revised Bethesda Guidelines.
