Editorial. Offers observation on the crisis in the supply of available physicians to care for persons with AIDS and human immunodeficiency virus infection which can be averted if primary care physicians accept a larger role in confronting the AIDS epidemic. Actions that can be taken by primary care physicians to assist in the medical response to the AIDS epidemic; Areas where primary care physicians need to develop knowledge to provide ambulatory care to patients with AIDS.
