- Abstract
The authors discuss studies relating to individualised blood transfusion particularly in elderly critically ill patients. Topics explored include physiological factors that would make higher haemoglobin concentration plausible, the occurrence of imbalance between oxygen supply and demand in patients with sepsis, and the recorded safety of restrictive blood transfusion for older cardiovascular disease patients.
