- Title
Endometriosis and susceptibility to COVID-19 infection: a floating river without blanks?
- Authors
Mormile, Raffaella
- Abstract
According to a letter published in the Archives of Gynecology & Obstetrics, there is evidence to suggest that women with endometriosis have a higher risk of contracting and experiencing more severe cases of COVID-19. The letter proposes that women with endometriosis should be considered as vulnerable patients and given priority access to COVID-19 vaccination. The letter also discusses the role of microRNA126 (miR-126) in both endometriosis and COVID-19, suggesting that the downregulation of miR-126 may contribute to the increased severity of COVID-19 infection in women with endometriosis. The author proposes that therapeutic strategies targeting miR-126 may help manage endometriosis and improve outcomes for endometriotic patients with COVID-19.
