- Title
Atmospheric chemistry: Radicals follow the Sun.
- Authors
Wennberg, Paul O.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the concentration of hydroxyl free radicals that may be predicted by the intensity of ultraviolet sunlight. A five-year record of the atmospheric concentration of the hydroxyl free radical (OH) was obtained at a research station in southern Germany. In 1971, it was suggested that OH controls the earth's tropospheric chemistry. Inability to accurately calculate stratospheric OH levels resulted to the reexamination of pathways to OH production.
