- Abstract
The present study assesses the impact of the ash ponds on the groundwater quality in the sub-watershed surrounding the ash ponds in the vicinity of Koradi near Nagpur in Maharashtra, India. Observation wells have been set up for monitoring of water level and groundwater quality for major cations, anions and trace elements. Samples (23 nos.) have been collected in pre-monsoon and post-monsoon seasons during 2008 and 2009, and analysis indicates that the sulphate concentration is very high (>1,000 mg/L) in samples close to the ash pond and in its downstream direction. The fluoride concentration exceeds the BIS limits in one sample.
