- Abstract
The article focuses on a study which investigated if continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is associated with a lower risk of incident hypertension. The study included 1,889 patients without hypertension, who were referred to a sleep center in Zaragoza, Spain for nocturnal polysomnography. Study authors found that the presence of OSA is linked with an increased adjusted risk of incident hypertension, but CPAP therapy reduces risk of hypertension. They concluded that OSA may be used as an independent modifiable risk factor for development of new-onset hypertension.
