- Abstract
Ilex paraguariensis St. Hil. is a forest species of great socioeconomic importance for the southern states of Brazil. This study aimed to assess the nutritional status of provenances (Ivaí, in Paraná state and Barão de Cotegipe, in Rio Grande do Sul state) and their progenies in a soil in the municipality of Ivaí, PR state. The experimental design was randomized blocks with four replications, taking as treatment two distinct provenances and five progenies. When analyzed, the macronutrients, micronutrients, Al and Na. Foliar N, P, K, Ca and Mg were considered satisfactory, and the N, P, Ca and Mg showed significant differences for both analyzed provenances. Within provenances, progenies of Ivai highlighted significant differences for the nutrients N, P, K, Ca and Mg. But for the progenies of Barão de Cotegipe, a significant difference was found only for Ca and Mg. For both provenances, foliar Fe, Cu and Mn were considered satisfactory. The concentration of Zn was considered low and B high. Aluminum contents were considered normal for the species. In regard to Na, there was no significant difference among provenances. The contents of Zn, Fe, Cu and Al and Na differed among the progenies of Barão de Cotegipe and Ivai. The provenance of Ivai showed higher levels of both, macro and micronutrients, compared to Barão de Cotegipe, indicating that a breeding program could significantly improve the quality of mate for human nutrition purposes. Comparing the average weight of green mass of the provenances, there is a significant gain in the crown of Barão de Cotegipe provenance which is not accompanied by the dry weight of 100 leaves.
