- Abstract
The article presents research into the physical properties of epoxy resin diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) that is self-reinforced with nanoscale organic rigid-rod composite compounds. A urethane linkage was forced from the chemical reaction of DGEBA with an aromatic diisocyanate of methylene diphenyl isocyanate (MDI). The four rigid-rod compounds are 2-naphthol, 4'-hydroxyphenyl-4-hydroxybenzoate, 4,4'-isopropylidenediphenol, and phenyl 4-hydroxybenzoate. The self-reinforced DGEBA systems were examined through scanning electric microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
