- Abstract
The idioventricular rhythm (IVR) is an ectopic escape rhythm that occurs when depolarisation rate of a normally suppressed focus increases to above that of the "higher order" focuses such as the sinoatrial node and the atrioventricular node. The escape rhythm of ventricular origin is termed idioventricular rhythm. Such rhythm generally exhibits a ventricular rate slower than 30-40 beats per minute (bpm). When the rate is faster than 30-40 bpm, the rhythm is called an accelerated idioventricular rhythm (AIVR). In this sudy, we report a case of an accelerated idioventricular rhythm in elder woman who presented with sensory loss in our emergency department and related to the rare etilogy such as hyperkalemia and hypocalcemia.
