The article examines noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NIV). Particular focus is given to how NIV can be used in early acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Additional topics discussed include NIV that is offered via both helmet and face mask, positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) and a study on the subject led by BK Patel.
