- Abstract
Rabies continues to be a significant public health issue in the 21st century, with an estimated 50,000-55,000 deaths worldwide each year. The majority of these deaths occur in Asia and Africa, where canine rabies is not under control. However, progress has been made in developed countries, where canine rabies has been eliminated. Efforts to eliminate canine rabies in developing countries are underway, with mass vaccination of domestic dogs being a cost-effective approach. Advances in diagnostic techniques and the development of novel vaccines are also being explored. The World Rabies Day initiative has been successful in raising awareness and educating people about rabies prevention.
