- Abstract
The first article discusses the 2023 AABB International Guidelines on red blood cell transfusion. The guidelines recommend restrictive transfusion practices for most stable adult and pediatric patients, considering individual patient contexts. The guidelines were developed collaboratively with various organizations and based on a review of randomized controlled trials. The second article presents the results of the CRYOSTAT-2 trial, which investigated the use of early cryoprecipitate in trauma patients with hemorrhage. The study found that adding early cryoprecipitate did not decrease mortality rates. The third article explores antibody-mediated immunosuppression in the HOD mouse model of alloimmunization, finding that rapid loss of target antigen induces immunosuppression. The fourth article investigates the impact of reticulocytes in donor blood units on red blood cell alloimmunization, finding that reticulocyte-rich units induce higher rates of alloantibody development. The final article examines the role of complement activation in transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI), finding that complement activation mediates neutrophil extracellular traps (NET) formation and macrophage trafficking, contributing to TRALI.
