- Abstract
The article presents a prospective, randomized, double-blinded, controlled crossover pilot study that determines the efficacy of xylitol irrigations in treating chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) as compared to saline solutions. It states that xylitol is a natural five carbon sugar which is becoming known as a substance that enhances the body's bactericidal mechanisms. The study found there were improvements with xylitol irrigation compared to saline irrigation.
