- Abstract
The purpose of the experiment was to explore the effect of fermented coconut residue feed on the growth performance and slaughter performance of Wenchang chickens. A total of 10 200 fifty-day-old Wenchang chickens with initial weight of (680±25) g were randomly divided into two groups, with 34 replicates per group and 150 chickens per replicate. The Wenchang chickens in control group were fed a basal diet, and Wenchang chickens in experimental group were fed a basal diet supplemented with fermented coconut residue. The experimental period was 60 days. The results showed that compared with the control group, the final weight and average daily gain of the experimental group were significantly increased (P<0.05), while the feed to gain ratio was significantly reduced (P<0.05). The mortality rate of the experimental group showed a decreasing trend (P>0.05). Compared with the control group, there was no significant difference in slaughter performance of Wenchang chickens in the experimental group (P>0.05). The study indicates that adding fermented coconut residue feed can improve the growth performance of Wenchang chickens.
