- Abstract
The experiment was to study the effect of selenium-enriched biological feed on growth performance and slaughter performance of beef cattle. Thirty healthy beef cattle with an average body weight about 330 kg were randomly divided into two groups, which were control group and test group, with 15 cattle in each group. The control group was not supplemented with selenium-enriched biological feed, while the experimental group was supplemented with selenium-enriched biological feed. The experiment lasted for 22 w. The results showed that the final weight and average daily gain of beef cattle in test group were significantly higher than those in control group (P<0.05). The live weight before slaughter, carcass weight, slaughter rate, net meat weight and eye muscle area of beef cattle in test group were significantly higher than those in control group (P<0.05). The selenium content in beef spine and rump of test group was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05), which was 0.148 4 and 0.158 2 mg/kg, respectively. The experiment indicates that adding selenium enriched biological feed can improve the growth performance and meat production performance of beef cattle, and can increase the deposition amount of selenium in different muscle tissues.
