- Abstract
In the essay On board with Don Quixote, 1933, Thomas Mann writes the diary of his first trip to America. During the experiences of the voyage, the analogies of travel in Western culture are renewed. From his reading we select the topic of exile; from it, we locate the presences of fictional and historical characters with the variables of space and time. This approach intends to observe the deepening of relations, that go from the description of conjunctions to the prefiguration of destinies. In both scenarios we can appreciate the persecution and the homesickness. Mann interprets Ricote as a prefiguration of the personal and political future and links Hitler's Germany with Cervantes' Spain.
