- Abstract
This document is a response to a critique of a systematic review and meta-analysis on the use of metformin for cancer prevention. The authors acknowledge the potential for time-related biases in the included observational studies and suggest that further evaluation of metformin for cancer prevention should be reconsidered. They also address the claim that new studies are not needed, pointing out that most studies have focused on metformin as an add-on therapy during cancer treatment rather than for prevention. They highlight promising findings from limited randomized clinical trials that suggest a potential chemopreventive effect of metformin. The author concludes that larger randomized trials, including in non-diabetic populations, are needed to better understand the efficacy of metformin for cancer prevention.
