- Abstract
The article presents a study that investigated the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and mortality in Japanese men and women without stroke or heart disease. Seven BMI categories were used in this study. Results showed a U-shaped relationship between BMI and fatal events. The study found that the relative hazards (RH) for all-cause mortality was higher in the underweight group. It also identified that participants with BMI between 23 and 25 kilograms/square meter had the lowest risk of all-cause mortality.
