- Abstract
The measuring device described here permits the quantification of pressure distributions, e.g. in Orthopedic medicine, under the sole of the human foot while Standing, walking or jumping. A 3 mm thick mobile flexible mat contains up to 20 pressure transducers/cm² working on the Capacitive measuring method. In contrast to previous similar devices employed by other investigators, it yields very accurate results on the basis of the high transducer density and pressure resolution. The results enable the physician to draw conclusions as to the structure and functional performance of the feet, and also as to posture and biomechanical kinetics. An on-line Computer analysis of the measured pressure data provides colored pictures, graphs and tables, by means of which a simple and accurate diagnosis of foot deformities becomes possible.
