- Abstract
In this study, copper sulfide nanoparticles doped with 4-mercaptoboric acid(CuS@MPBA NPs)exhibiting near-infrared laser response and high photothermal conversion properties were synthesized for the detection and inactivation of foodborne pathogenslike Escherichia coli(E. coli)and Staphylococcus aureus O (S. aureus). When CuS@MPBA-NPs were combined with the above pathogenic bacteria, a complex was formed through the interaction of the 4-mercaptophenylboric acid with cis-diol of saccharides on the bacterial cell. The complex was separated from non-adsorbed CuS@MPBA-NPs through centrifugation and collected as a precipitate. Laser irradiation of the precipitate complex raised the temperature of the solution and enabled temperature-sensitive detection of bacteria in the range of 10 CFU/mL-107 CFU/mL for both E. coli and S. aureus. During the temperature-sensitive detection process, bacteria could be inactivated simultaneously due to the increase in temperature, providing antibacterial efficiency of up to 98.3% and 98.7% against E. coli and S. aureus, respectively.
