- Abstract
This article presents a study related to the detection of serum antibody to Renibacterium salmoninarum in pen-cultured coho salmon, Oncorhynchus kisutch. In Japan, the production of cultured coho salmon, Oncorhynchus kisutch, reached 21000 tonnes in 1989. Coho salmon culture begins with eggs imported from the U.S. Coho salmon grow to a weight of about 2 kg in net cages before harvesting. Bacterial kidney disease, caused by Renibacterium salmoninarum is the most prevalent bacterial disease in cultured coho salmon. The detection of antibody against a pathogen is often a useful method for the diagnosis of infectious disease.
