- Abstract
The article discusses a study which described the semi-rational engineering of the self-sufficient monooxygenase P450 BM 3 towards the direct aromatic hydroxylation of p-xylene. The study selected and iteratively saturated five amino acid residues reported to influence either substrate selectivity, activity or both. It was found that residue F87 is essential for efficient coupling and aromatic hydroxylation of p-xylene.
