- Abstract
Objective. To uncover the experience of mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder. Methods. A qualitative study based on the theoretical-philosophical-methodological reference of Martin Heidegger, carried out in a municipality in the forest area of Minas Gerais, with 14 mothers of diagnosed children, who in January/March 2016 made their statements in encounters mediated by empathy. Results: From understanding emerged the Units of Significance: Difficult to accept diagnosis and non-acceptance of family and society. It has been revealed that being-there-autistic-mother starts from the facticity to impropriety and is inauthentic because she ceases to be an individual and becomes the "autistic mother". Conclusion: In the unveiling of the senses it was noticed the difficulty of the daily life of being autistic mother. It is suggested to carry out new studies with a focus on nurses and health professionals, since it is necessary to rethink public policies in order to reach this part of the population in a more efficient and inclusive manner.
