- Abstract
The book "Military Power and the Dutch Republic. War, Trade and the Balance of Power in Europe, 1648—1813" deals with the military history of the Netherlands from 1648 to 1813. It focuses on the wars in which the Netherlands were involved on the European continent and in the surrounding seas. The volume examines the decline of Dutch military power in the 18th century and analyzes the connections between military, political, social, and economic history. It also discusses the unique constitution of the Dutch Republic and its impact on the military constitution. The book provides a comprehensive insight into the military history of the Netherlands and shows that despite its limited military affinity, the country was not spared from armed conflicts and alliance politics of the time.
