- Abstract
The article focuses on the findings of studies on the effectiveness of corticosteroids in the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). It notes that DMD is characterized by muscle wasting and loss of walking ability leading to complete wheelchair dependence by 13 years of age. It cites that predinisolone has a beneficial effect on muscle strength and function in males with Duchenne dystrophy. It states that deflazacort can also be used for the treatment of the disease in nations where it is available.
