- Abstract
This study aimed to determine the somatotype and anthropometric profile of amateur swimmers belonging to a team in Talca (a Chilean city). 20 swimmers participated (11 men and 9 women), ranging in ages from 10 to 14 years old. The Anthropometric weight, height, size, sitting height (ATC), tricipital, sub scapular and suprailiac; the diameters of the humerus and femur and the perimeters of a relaxed arm and calf were evaluated. The data were obtained by age groups (10-11, 12-13 and >14), and by comparing these, significant values were obtained in the ATC swimmers 10-11 years p = 0.05; in the group of 12 and 13 years triceps skinfold p = 0.001, p = 0.001 and subscapularis suprailiac p = 0.02 and the final target height (EDP) p = 0.03 and peak growth rate (PVC) p = 0.007. The data indicate that the anthropometric characteristics of size and scale are more developed and by having a meso-ecotomorfo somatotype, they are projected onto the higher level.
