- Abstract
Objective: To explore the event-related potential characteristics of risk decision-making preferences in freshmen with and without suicidal ideation. Methods: Twenty-one college students with suicidal ideation (11 males and 10 females) and 21 college students without suicidal ideation (11 males and 10 females) were selected to complete the Balloon Analogue Risk Task (BART). The risk decision preference (risk seeking/risk avoidance) of individuals were grouped according to BART values. At the same time, Electroencephalogram (EEG) data were collected for event-related potential parameter analysis (ERP), including P1, P2, FRN and P3 EEG components. Results: The BART value was significantly greater in the suicidal ideation group than in the non-sui-cidal ideation group (P<0.05). The event-related potential (ERP) analysis showed that the average amplitude of the PI component was greater in the suicidal ideation group than in the group without suicidal ideation in the risk seeking [(3.47 ± 2.13) μv vs. (2.51 ± 4.10) μv,P < 0.05], the average amplitude of the P1, P2, and P3 components was greater in the suicidal group than in the non-suicidal ideation group in the risk avoidancef (5.71 ± 3.29) μv vs. (4.10 ± 4.18) μv, (9.51 ± 3.67) μv vs. (6.26 ± 4.20) μv, (8.47 ± 4.99) μv vs. (5.79 ± 5 34) μv; Ps < 0.05]. However, in the risk avoidance, the average amplitude of the FRN component was smaller in the suicidal ideation group than in the group without suicidal ideation [(8.37 ± 4.17) μv vs. (5.10 ± 6.24) μv, P <0.01]. Conclusion: The study shows that college freshmen with suicidal ideation are more likely to take risks in risk decision making.
