- Abstract
Objective. The present study aim to determine the existence of IL-4 C-590T polymorphism on a Romanian population. Material and method. Two hundred and forty one patients have been enrolled in the study. All were native Romanian, especially from Transylvania, Caucasian race. For each patient a blood sample has been obtained. The DNA extracted using a specific extraction kit from peripheral leukocytes was used in order to determine IL- 4-590 C>T polymorphism using a PCR-RFLP based protocol. Results. The common allele was encountered more frequent than the variant allele (C- 81.74% - T 18.26%). Z test calculated for T allele failed to demonstrate statistical significant differences between different age classes (Z = 0.489, p > 0.05). C/C genotype was more frequently seen, followed by the heterozygous C/T genotype and respectively T/T genotype (66.39 %, 30.71% and respectively 2.9%) Conclusions. IL 4 -590 C>T polymorphism is present in the study population. Genotypes and alleles repartition has a similar pattern with other studies performed on Caucasian population.
