- Abstract
This article, published in the Journal of Experimental Botany, explores the relationship between different species of duckweed (Lemnaceae) and the challenges in identifying and classifying them due to their limited morphological differences and genetic variability. The study provides evidence for ploidy mutations and hybridity as reasons for the genetic diversity among closely related duckweed species. Duckweeds are of scientific interest as model plants and have various commercial applications. The findings of this study have implications for understanding duckweed phylogeny and taxonomy, as well as the evolution of sexual and asexual propagation.
